Use It Now!
February 27 is the last day of early voting for the March 3 primary elections. In Dallas for example, it is also the last day of easy voting because Republicans have made it harder to vote on March 3. Voters will have to find and go to their particular precinct to vote, and they may find long lines. Early voting is better, and vote-by-mail, if eligible, is the best.
Tune In March 4 for Vote Analysis
Our election specialist, Kenneth Williams, will be explaining what happened at a statewide on-line retiree meeting Wednesday, March 4, at 12:30PM. As Texas election results will be among the first in the nation, the world will be watching us! Join us at meeting time by clicking here: https://retiredamericans-org.zoom.us/j/85906582980
“Use It Or Lose It!”
Voter suppression has been going on for some time. The worst legislation so far has already passed the House and is in the U.S. Senate. Like a lot of voter suppression efforts, it would increase the purging of registered voters who haven’t been voting regularly. If you vote when you have the chance, purges may not affect you, but it is estimated that 21 million Americans would be harmed by the new legislation. It’s “Use It Or Lose It!” where voting rights are concerned.
The good news is that early voting has gone very well for pro-retiree candidates so far. Activists will continue through election day, then start over for the general election in November. To see how you can help, go to https://www.mobilize.us/txaflcio. Labor’s statewide endorsements are at http://texasaflcio.org. Local endorsements are local web sites such as the North Texas list at https://northtxlabor.org/news/north-texas-area-labor-federation-2026-primary-election.
The election timetable did not allow Texas Alliance for Retired Americans to endorse any candidates in the primaries, but we will make a few key endorsements around each of our seven Texas chapters for November.
Never Forget the Women
International Women’s Day is March 8. We’ll hold a statewide on-line meeting at 3PM featuring the head of the Progressive Caucus in the Texas Legislature, Representative Ana Maria Ramos. Register here: https://us06web.zoom.us/meeting/register/pFktaQ70QC6YonVVf4STGA
