May Is Older Americans Month. Make ’em Notice!

The Dallas TARA Chapter will picnic at noon on May 3rd in Kidd Springs Park. Everybody invited! We usually find open tables in the 1000 block of Sylvan Avenue where it and Kidd Springs Drive both dead end into the park. Judy and Barbara need RSVP’s from you right away so they will know how much to buy. Write judy4tara@aol.com.

Patricia has also suggested that some of us might want to bring other picnic food just for fun. Newspersons and candidates may join us because they know that seniors are really important!

Make a Difference on MayDay!

Monday, May 1 is International Workers Day. We’ll join younger activists in an experimental picketing action to get employers to raise wages. We will begin picketing on the sidewalk at 3699 Cole Street at 3:30PM. Adventurous activists may then picket other employers.

Those using public transportation may take any train except the Green Line to the City Place station, then take the McKinney trolley to its nearby stop at 3699 Cole Street. Those driving cars will find a free parking garage in the middle of West Village. The easiest way to find it is to turn left into the unmarked street at 3700 McKinney. Those relying on GPS could target “Malai Kitchen,” because the restaurant is right next to the parking lot entrance.

TARA will try to have a table at all May events, but we will certainly be at the Dallas AFL-CIO’s picnic at 1 PM on May 13 at the APWU hall, 2010 Postal Way in West Dallas.

Let ’em Hear From You!

Our national organization and the Texas AFL-CIO are working hard to stop anti-retiree legislation. National ARA has made a great video on Social Security. Dallas and other Central Labor Councils are trying to win the May 6 elections for us. If you are not already doing all you can, please contact me, genelantz@texasretiredamericans.org.
