Legislation to Look (out) For

On March 8, Brother Eric Hartman of our Austin Chapter identified these Texas bills as especially dangerous for seniors:

• SB 2 by Hughes, allowing prosecution of innocent voting mistakes as felonies.
• SB 220 by Bettencourt/HB 549 by Swanson, establishing state election police with authority to pursue criminal charges for violation of election laws.
• SB 823 by Bettencourt/HB 2020 by Oliverson, authorizing state takeover of local election administration from county.
• HB 678 by Keith Bell, giving the state attorney general control over election law enforcement, taking that authority away from local district attorneys and the secretary of state.
• HB 2390 by Isaac, banning placement of polling locations on college campuses.
