Texans Demand Lower Drug Costs

Thanks to our Dallas, Houston, Austin, Coastal Bend and Golden Triangle TARA chapters for celebrating the Medicare and Social Security Birthdays this year.

TARA JOINS NATIONAL DAY OF ACTION TO LOWER DRUG PRICES!

In Dallas, TARA Field Organizer Judy Bryant and Secretary Gene Lantz were joined by TARA activists George Nolan, Zen Biasco, Morris Fried, Julie Britton, Ken Williams, Mary Stretcher, Ken Stretcher, Susan Cooper, David Haymes, Cherry Haymes and Patricia Murphy to protest high drug prices on the National Day of Action! A special thanks to our allies who joined us, including Dave Jones, Liz Wally and Mary Cato from Clean Elections Texas; Summer Lollie from the Texas AFL-CIO/YALL; Tony Dahlin from YALL/ATU; LorraineMontemayor from Dallas AFL-CIO/YALL and  super activist Scott Hadden, with great Protest Dog Kodi! Members chanted and displayed signs in front of Senator John Cornyn’s office and then a smaller group shared “Prescriptions to Lower Drug Prices” with his staff.

In Austin, TARA President Tony Padilla and Austin Secretary Jan Lance met with CourtneyToretto, Deputy District Director of Congressman Lloyd Doggett, to deliver “a prescription for lower drug prices.” They thanked Congressman Doggett for sponsoring the Medicare Negotiation and Competitive Licensing Act.

GOLDEN TRIANGLE TARA SAYS HAPPY 84th BIRTHDAY SOCIAL SECURITY!

The Golden Triangle TARA Chapter recently celebrated the 84th Birthday of Social Security at their August meeting. Chapter President Rev. Harmon Dent introduced their speaker, Jefferson County Treasurer Charlie Hall. He shared his thoughts on Social Security and the progress he’s made in his first seven months on the job. Members enjoyed an unusual two part Social Security Birthday cake, symbolizing “Cut the cake, not our earned benefits!”
