Houston Meeting Is Next

This week we welcome Byron Williams as a TARA Executive Board Member representing the International Association of Machinists. He is filling the IAM E Board  position long held by the late Billy Robinson. The Houston TARA Chapter meets this week. If you live in this area, you will receive a separate email about the meeting.

TARA members and retirees who are attending the Texas AFL-CIO Convention at the Hyatt Riverwalk in San Antonio on July 25-27 are invited to the TARA Caucus Meeting at 4 pm on Thursday, July 25, after the end of the day’s convention activities. We will meet in the Regency 5 Room from 4-6 pm. You do not need to need to be a TARA member to attend.

TARA ATTENDS TEXAS STATE COUNCIL OF MACHINISTS’ CONVENTION

TARA President Tony Padilla, a longtime IAM member, recently spoke on behalf of TARA at the Texas State Council of Machinists Convention in Austin. New TARA IAM E Board member Byron Williams is the President of the TSCM and TARA IAM E board member  Marlin Phillips represents railroad workers and retirees on the TSCM E board.  Congressman Joaquin Castro was the keynote speaker at the convention.

TARA JOINS UNION SHOW OF UNITY FOR SKY CHEF WORKERS
TARA Activists Ken and Mary Stretcher and Field Organizer Judy Bryant joined UNITE HERE Local 23 brothers and sisters at DFW Terminal D for an Informational Picket directed at American Airlines. As LSG Sky Chefs who service American Airlines catering division, these members are making poverty wages, with 20-year plus employees earning only $12/hour, with no pensions and unaffordable health care costs! With the billions in profits made by American and other airlines, this is wrong. Bryant told the group that TARA stands with them and works for current and future generations to earn a living wage and to be able to retire with dignity! Texas HD 105 State Rep Terry Meza, members of Alliance/AFT, ATU, TWU, Teamsters, YALL DFW and DSA added their voices to this union show of unity, organized by Dallas, Tarrant County and Texas AFL-CIO. Thanks Summer Lollie and Kara Sheehan.
