Texas Needs to Respect Seniors

The Golden Triangle and Austin TARA chapters meet this week. If you live in these areas, you received a separate email with meeting details.

SENATOR JOHNSON HOLDS MEDICAID TALK

TARA-endorsed Texas Senator Nathan Johnson held a Medicaid Talk event at the North Dallas Chamber of Commerce about Medicaid Expansion in Texas, which is one of only 14 states to not yet do this. A distinguished panel of healthcare leaders shared their insight and expertise on this important subject. TARA has long been a part of the Cover Texas Now coalition which supports Medicaid Expansion as a much needed benefit for millions of uninsured Texans. Field Organizer Judy Bryant and activist Horace Blake participated in the meeting. Horace spoke out at the end of the Talk, saying that we must put out the fires now which are resulting from the failure to expand Medicaid, as we’re faced with a ticking time bomb which will explode and affect many more Texans who just want to be healthy. He also asked Senator Johnson to make us aware of what we can do to help with this campaign.

HEALTHY TEXAS ACT WOULD COVER ALL TEXANS

At a recent forum held at the Texas AFL-CIO, TARA President Tony Padilla spoke in favor of the Healthy Texas Act which would bring health coverage to every Texan. HB 4127, by TARA backed Rep. Gina Hinojosa of Austin, received a hearing this week in the House Insurance Committee.

TARA SUPPORTS TEXAS STATE EMPLOYEES UNION

TARA President Tony Padilla and Field Organizer Judy Bryant were joined at the Texas Capitol by activists Chris Cruz, Eddie Morgan, Yolanda Delgado, Danny Fetonte, Barbara Fetonte and Alice Embree as they participated in the Texas State Employee Union’s recent Lobby Day. TSEU State President Judy Lugo and Retiree Chair Anitra Patterson are also TARA members. Members joined in a parade, then had a rally on the south Capitol steps before visiting legislators to ask for raises for all state employees and COLAs for retirees.
