We Were Set Back, But Not Defeated

The Republican tax scam will hurt the right to retire. But Texas retirees can be proud of our fight. We burned up the phone lines, we wrote letters and emails, and we hit the streets time after time!

Final Version Was Less Evil

The bill that finally scrapped through Congress had lost a lot of the worst features of the earlier versions.  Although they are still expected to be a consequence, the giant cuts in retirement benefits were no longer mandated in the final version. Our last-minute alarm about new taxation for public employee pension funds contributed to the demise of that feature.

Republicans Can’t Ignore the People

In the battle of ideas, we won!

Throughout our campaign, public support for the Republican tax giveaways and budget cuts drooped lower and lower.  The last poll before the vote came from NBC News.  The article says, “According to the poll — which was conducted before the House and Senate voted on the tax bill — 24 percent of Americans say that the Trump-backed tax plan is a good idea, versus 41 percent who believe it’s a bad idea. That’s an increase in unpopularity from October, when 35 percent said it was a bad idea, and 25 percent said it was a good idea.”

Mister Trump and the perpetrators of the Tax Scam cannot get re-elected with 24 percent support! Especially if Texas retirees keep up the good work!
