We Are Texas Seniors: “Hear Us Roar!”
The Houston Chapter of Texas Alliance for Retired Americans was formed at their July 30 celebration of Medicare/Medicaid.
Congresspersons Gene Green and Sheila Jackson Lee helped kick off the Houston Chapter. They had a big photo of President Johnson signing Medicare/Medicaid in 1965.
As of August 3, the first four of nine Texas events were done. At least ten new members signed up and paid $10 annual dues. At least 100 new signatures were added to our petitions to expand Medicaid.
The Dallas Chapter, our oldest, hosted Congressman Marc Veasey on August 3. Two videos went on our Facebook Page.
Organizer Judy Bryant experimented with “live stream” on Facebook, so that even more than the 50 people present were watching as Congressman Veasey spoke on Social Security, Democracy, and other issues important to retirees.
Our next big challenge is to try to start another new chapter in Beaumont. We’re growing in structure, size, and impact!
