Texas Alliance for Retired Americans Demands Answers and Condemns Paxton Campaign’s Support for Social Security Privatization
AUSTIN, TX — The Texas Alliance for Retired Americans condemns and demands answers in light of recent reports that U.S. Senate candidate Ken Paxton’s campaign supports privatizing Social Security, letting Wall Street and billionaires gamble with nearly 5 million Texas seniors’ earned benefits, after the campaign’s lead spokesperson endorsed the dangerous idea.
Paxton has refused to answer questions on these new reports or provide any details of his plan to protect Social Security. According to the latest Social Security Trustees’ Report, without Congressional action to increase revenue to the system, all current and future Social Security benefits will be cut by 22% in 2032.
“Social Security is not a stock pick — it’s a promise this country made to workers who pay into the system their whole lives. Recent reports of Ken Paxton’s campaign supporting Social Security privatization, letting Wall Street and megacorporations gamble with Texans’ retirements, are shocking and demand immediate answers,” said Gene Lantz, President of the Texas Alliance for Retired Americans. “Whoever is elected to the U.S. Senate will determine the future of Social Security and whether seniors in Texas will lose an average of $400 a month starting in 2032. Ken Paxton cannot remain silent. He must come clean with voters and tell them if he plans to vote to privatize Social Security, raise the retirement age, or cut benefits in any way. Texans of all ages deserve to know exactly where Ken Paxton stands on this critical issue before they cast their ballots.”
