We’re Ready
Texas candidates who would like retiree recommendations may answer our on-line questionnaire at https://forms.gle/cjgURiszgFpZMcaB7 .
The December 22 Executive Board meeting welcomed Denise Maben and Tony Padilla. Denise is a longtime leader of retirees from the Machinists’ union and is now President of the TARA West Fort Worth Chapter. Former President, former Secretary Tony Padilla rejoins the board after an illness. He is the Vice President representing the Machinists Union.
We re-activated our Twitter account: @Tx4TARA. In order to simplify cooperating on our social media posts, we will use #texasretirees on relevant posts. All of us will be able to find all recent posts, no matter where they came from.
We continue to sharpen our skills. We have begun training on the new on-line organizing program used by the AFL-CIO. It will enable us to parcel out small, easy “tasks” to volunteers. The result will be a stronger, more unified, and more active movement statewide.
Our next statewide action is a ZOOM meeting on election law, 6PM on January 4. Contact me at genelantz@texasretiredamericans.org to be invited. Our biennial convention is set for January 19 in Round Rock.
TARA activists continue to seek out existing retiree organizations so that we can attend their meetings and build the retiree network. On December 17, we were pleased to attend the annual Christmas meeting of Ironworkers Local 263 in Arlington.
As we get ready for a big 2022 challenge, we are raising funds and building membership. We try to collect $10/year from members. Anyone who wants information should please contact me at genelantz@texasretiredamericans.org.
Throughout 2022, we will be on the phones, on the internet, and on the streets for Texas Retirees.
In Solidarity
Gene Lantz, President
