We wish all of our TARA members and their families a very Happy Thanksgiving.  Please mark your calendars for Friday, January 24, 2020, as we will hold our Texas Alliance for Retired Americans Biennial Convention that day at the Texas AFL-CIO in Austin. Next week’s Monday Alert will have complete details and registration information. This will also be available at all December and January chapter meetings.

The Texas AFL-CIO held its first Complete Count Committee Training for the 2020 Census at their headquarters. TARA activists Ana Pomar, Jan Lance and Chris Cruz joined union leaders from around the state for the class taught by William Horton of the United States Census Bureau. The participants received certificates as Census Ambassadors and will share the tools and information they learned locally to make certain that all Texans are counted to add more benefits and resources to our communities.

The TARA Austin chapter recently heard Heidi Sloan, teacher assistant who is running for Texas CD 25, speak at their meeting. As always, they started with a pot luck meal plus entertainment by President Jack McCabe offering music and World Poet Thom Woodruff sharing verse. TARA President Tony Padilla reported on his moving experience participating in the international union Solidarity Without Borders event in El Paso/Juarez.
