Dallas Chapter Plans Actions

The Dallas Chapter of the Texas Alliance for Retired Americans met on September 2. The top of the agenda was participating in Labor Day activities in North Texas during the Labor Day weekend. We’ll march on September 5 in Dallas, picnic in Hurst on September 6, and breakfast on September 7 in Mesquite. In every event, we’ll make sure that everybody knows that retirees are “part of the solution.”

President George Nolan started the meeting off with a talk and discussion on current events.

Organizer Judy Bryant brought a new general-purpose leaflet to the meeting, and Zen Biasco asked that it be published on our web site. We’ll participate in the Employee Retirement System Fair on September 14. Voter registration week begins September 21, and we have several activities planned. Congressman Veasey, a champion on retiree issues, is holding a retiree seminar at the Forest Hill Convention Center, 6901 Wichita Street, Forest Hill, TX, on Wednesday, September 23.from 8:30AM to 12:30PM. Lewis Fulbright announced a banquet at the  American Postal Workers Union hall, 2010 Postal Way, on September 25. We talked about the work we’re doing to try to organize the thousands of airline retirees in North Texas. We also talked about forming a veterans’ committee before November.

Several of the retirees reported on important activities they have recently been involved in.

Vice President Tom Berry passed his cowboy hat around to help support the work we do. He sets a good example for all retiree meetings everywhere, because raising money is always critical. The group raised $44 in voluntary donations.

Thanks
