El Paso Retirees Form Organizing Committee

The Texas Alliance for Retired Americans continues its commitment to organizing all Texans. Glenn Scott, President of the Austin Chapter of the Texas Alliance, took some of her vacation time to round up old and new friends in El Paso to form an organizing committee. The group laid plans to become the El Paso Chapter of the Texas Alliance for Retired Americans. Their first project will be to make sure that everybody knows retirees are participating in the El Paso Labor Day Breakfast at 9 AM Monday, September 7th, at the Wyndham Hotel in the El Paso Airport Complex. Later on, they are inviting Texas Organizer Judy Bryant to join them for another important meeting.

The reason that TARA chapters, which shouldn’t be confused with pre-existing affiliates, are so important is that they can accept anybody into membership. Retirees from any union or from no union can work together on the fight to save and extend the right to retire. We stand up for Social Security, healthcare, pensions, democracy, and all the issues that matter most to Texas seniors. Even younger people are welcome in our chapters. We intend to have chapters in every major Texas city!

Working together, TARA members can be effective in the fights that are being forced on us, and even pick a few fights of our own! Welcome, El Paso!

Thanks
