Activists Learn About Pending Texas Legislation

TARA members who attended the Senior Source Legislative Forum heard Director Lynda Ender share a list of bills affecting seniors which have been filed in the 2015 Texas Legislature. TARA and AGE Board Member Fernando Rojas introduced Texas House Representatives Roberto Alonzo, Rodney Anderson and Matt Shaheen who explained their views on senior issues and answered questions submitted by participants.

The main question to be answered was “Will you vote to accept the $100 million in federal money for expanding Medicaid and providing health care for the poorest Texans?” Democrat Alonzo answered “yes” succinctly, but the two Republicans gave long speeches with no actual answer in them, except that they were very concerned. The Texas Alliance for Retired Americans has been gathering signatures in favor of accepting the money and providing the health insurance (see below).

The Texas Alliance for Retired Americans joins the Senior Source in encouraging everyone to visit their State Capitol on February 17.
