You’re Invited to Alliance Convention!
Everybody who supports the right to retire is encouraged to attend the State Convention of the Texas Alliance for Retired Americans at 10:30 AM on Tuesday, January 20, at 1700 South 1st St Austin, Tx 78704. RSVP to Judy Bryant, or call her at 214-729-0063 before January 16. Judy is organizing lunches, so the head count is essential.
The site is the union hall for the Texas State Employees’ Union. It’s particularly appropriate because Texas retirees will be fighting to get the Legislature to properly finance the Texas Retirement System so that hundreds of thousands of state employees can count on having their pensions when they retire.
Another big state issue is their failure to accept $100 million in federal funds to provide insurance for the poorest Texans. At the federal level, well, just about everything bad is anticipated. The new congress, on its first day, considered undermining Social Security. A full-fledged attempt to privatize Medicare is expected, because the House voted for it during their last few sessions. The only reason it didn’t get enacted was because Democrats held it up in the Senate. This year, the Republicans hold both the House and the Senate!
There is no registration fee for the convention. Please plan to participate. The need for a fighting statewide network of retirees and retiree organizations has never been greater!
