Party in December…

Texas Alliance members are encouraged to have a good time during these holidays. The Dallas chapter held their party early with singing, games, and a terrific meal catered by TARA member Beverly McCray. Socializing was especially meaningful because our Chapter President, George Nolan, and our State President, Gene Lantz, had both just gotten out of hospitals. Our lives are so precarious, and so precious!

Lorraine Biribil brought us an uplifting message from Congressman Veasey’s office. He had personally called the day before just to see how we are doing! Retirees really matter!

Without being overly grim about it, Texas seniors are looking toward January and the next congressional session. It’s well known that the new majority is anti-senior. Their old plans to privatize Medicare and undermine Social Security, long frustrated by the Democratic majority in the Senate, are now considered just the “baseline” for the damage they intend toward the right to retire in America.

We’re getting ready. Two new members joined at our December party. Several signed up for our convention on January 20, and several put down $25 deposits for the bus to Austin on “Senior Day” February 17. Our pledge drive is underway, and several Texas seniors have already clicked the “donate” button on our web site, then put down an amount and checked “recurring payment” on our Paypal site. These small monthly donations accumulate and add up to real power for Texas seniors!

We’ll keep on having fun through this month. We’ll need our strength for what’s coming!

-Gene Lantz, President
