Executive Director Rich Fiesta Comes to Texas

Retiree leaders from Austin, Corpus Christi, and Dallas took Rich Fiesta, national Executive Director of the Alliance for Retired Americans, out to dinner on July 29. We wore cowboy hats and ate Texas barbecue! Fiesta was in town because the entire retiree movement recognizes the importance of exposing the American Legislative Exchange Council (ALEC), which began its convention in Dallas the next day. TARA members and our national leadership want to make sure that people realize that ALEC stands for privatizing pensions, keeping drug prices high, and taking away American democracy.

Additionally, Fiesta helped Texans celebrate the 49th anniversary of Medicare, July 30. When Lyndon Johnson signed the Medicare bill, he credited the National Committee for Senior Citizens, predecessor to our present organization. We fought for it, we won it, and we’re not letting it go!
