Postal Workers Form Statewide Retiree Organization

Texas retirees took a giant step forward in June. Judy Bryant reports that Lewis Fulbright, TARA Executive Board Member and VP,  is a long time activist and head of the Dallas American Postal Workers Union local 732 Retiree Chapter. When he learned that their local had the only Texas chapter, and they needed at least 3 chapters in order to form a state chapter, he set about organizing them in Houston and San Antonio in a short time. At the recent APWU convention in Killeen, they received their state charter.
On the last day of their convention, retiree leaders met and heard information about the ARA and our Texas Alliance from Field Organizer Judy Bryant. They are planning to form additional APWU Retiree Chapters and work with TARA in Texas cities. The Texas Alliance for Retired Americans welcomes all existing retiree organizations to join us as affiliates and to help us form chapters of retirees that include everybody, including folks who don’t have a union affiliation. Only by bringing together everybody who supports retiree rights can we get strong enough to turn back the assault against America’s seniors!

Sign our petition to Dallas Mayor Rawlings asking him to stop pushing to privatize the school district and to NOT WELCOME the American Legislative Exchange Council (ALEC) to Dallas July 30.

We’re also still gathering petitions for health care implementation in Texas. Sign that petition at:
