Ft Worth Seniors to Meet; Dallas Battles Rage On

Fort Worth Seniors to Report on National Convention

Our next Monthly meeting of the Ft Worth Alliance for Retired Americans will be this Wednesday, May 21st. There will be a report on the National Convention and a discussion of future ARA plans. Among the issues are the Trans-Pacific Partnership (TPP), American Legislative Exchange Council (ALEC) Dallas July meeting, and voting rights.
The decision to suspend last month’s meeting in order join 1,200 seniors at the rally at the Dallas AT&T headquarters proved to be a good idea. The rally was a great success and an important event in our fight to halt the erosion of retiree benefit. Among the speakers were Ray Kramer, who initiated the call for the rally, and Gene Lantz, President of the Texas ARA.  The video is at the top of our front  page and on YouTube at http://youtu.be/ch45FNNAOQY. We need more of this kind of action.

One important battle going on is to save public education from greedy privatizers. Organizer Judy Bryant sends this:

As you know, SOPS (Sabotage Our Public Schools) turned in 48,000 signatures. Many of you may have seen Channel 8’s Brett Shipp’s stories the past two nights about this as he is continuing his investigation into the validity of the way the petitions were completed. The instructions printed at the top were NOT followed and NOT read to people as they were supposed to be.   I’ve exchanged emails with Brett Shipp and he will do another story about this on Monday if he gets enough people who will come forward and tell their story.
If you or someone you know did not have the proper procedure followed OR you observed people who signed without having the statement readplease call Brett Shipp at 214-748-9361 and leave a message.
On this 60th Anniversary of Brown vs. Board of Education, it is sad that we find public education and those who serve kids under such constant attack.  If we all work together, we can defeat the efforts of the 1% who are NOT interested in the children, but their bank accounts!
Blessings,
Judy Bryant

Save the Date, July 30!

The most exciting workshops at our national convention exposed the American Legislative Exchange Council (ALEC). Seniors across the nation are up in arms about ALEC’s efforts to privatize pensions and keep drug prices high, among many other corporate-inspired projects. There will be protests when ALEC comes to Dallas on July 30!
