Fort Worth AND All-Texas Retiree Meetings

The Fort Worth Chapter of the Texas Alliance for Retired Americans meets at 1:30 Wednesday, January 15th at the CWA 6201 Union Hall, 421 S. Adams St., Ft Worth. The restaurant they had been meeting at was not available. One of the topics will be getting a good turnout for the statewide conference to be held 4-6 PM Friday, August 24, in the Tannehill Room of the Austin Sheraton Downtown, 701 E 11th.

All 2014 individual dues ($10) and organization affiliation fees ($25) are due now. Activists are preparing our proposal for a continuation of the grant that pays for our part-time Texas Organizer, Judy Bryant. The list of our activities in 2013, easily viewed as headlines in our website’s Newsletter section, shows that we had a smoking hot year in defense of the right to retire. We intend to continue, and ask everybody in the state to please get on board!

The statewide conference will take up vital issues such as the federal budget fight(s), defending Social Security, Medicare, and Medicaid, and building retiree power in every possible way. One important way to build retiree power in 2014 will be our campaign to improve voter turnout. For the first time ever, retirees can make one application and empower themselves to vote by mail in all the year’s elections. Applications to vote by mail can be downloaded. See our “voting for Texas seniors” section for ins and outs.

We can make 2014 a wonderful year for all present and future retirees!
