Build the Movement! All Retirees Out for Labor Day!

Retirees have a terrific opportunity to build our statewide movement at Labor Day activities this year. Our good friends from the union movement will be there, the best of the political activists will come, and everybody will be open to talking about the right to retire in America!

Ada French-Goring, a member of the Fort Worth Chapter of the Texas Alliance for Retired Americans, took responsibility for organizing the only Labor Day event in Tarrant County. Just outside Fort Worth, in Hurst, she found Chisholm Park as the perfect site. They have baseball fields, basketball courts, an aquatics center, a fishing pond, and picnic pavilions. UAW Local 848 and its retiree group agreed to co-sponsor.

The Texas Alliance will celebrate Grandparents Day at our table.

They start at 1 PM on Sunday, September 6. Congressman Marc Veasey liked the idea and volunteered to be the main speaker. Gerardo Contreras volunteered to do the catering, so Ada’s event has really taken off!

If they want, people can bring food and beer, but the park prohibits glass bottles.

Labor Day and other activities will be under discussion at our Fort Worth Chapter meeting and our Austin meeting this week.
