Dallas Chapter of TARA Plans to Fight for Retiree Rights

  • DALLAS TARA CHAPTER MEETING
  • Wednesday, Aug 5, 12:30P
  • APWU HALL, 2010 POSTAL WAY, DALLAS, TEXAS, 75212 (map

Please join us Wednesday. We’ll recap our very successful series of Medicare Celebrations in Texas. We’ll also make plans to keep up the fight. Fund raising is always a big problem for us, so we try to get people to sign up for a donation or a small monthly pledge by hitting the donate button on our web site or by clicking here.

Congressional Recess Gives Us Opportunities

Congress starts its long recess August 10. That means that retiree activists can get appointments to see their congresspersons all the way through Labor Day. Let us help you organize a delegation!

Raise Money for the Fight Ahead

Congressman Marc Veasey is giving us a great opportunity to learn how to raise money in a workshop on August 18. He writes “I would like to invite local non-profit organizations, faith based associations, and neighborhood associations to my Grant Writing Workshop to learn how to apply for federal grants to support their community-based projects. Free lunch will be included.

  • Tuesday, August 18, 10AM-3PM

Dare to Fight Back!

Alliance Executive Director Rich Fiesta underlines the importance of facing up to our enemies on Medicare. He writes:

“I’m not going to mince words. Medicare is under attack. Whether it is the recent statements by presidential candidate Jeb Bush outrageously calling Medicare “an actuarially unsound healthcare system,” or this year’s U.S. House and Senate budgets, which cut hundreds of billions of dollars from Medicare and shift costs onto the backs of older Americans, we must fight back.

For 50 years, Medicare has guaranteed quality and affordable health care to older adults and people with disabilities. It was signed into law by President Lyndon Johnson in 1965 and continues, to this day, to be one of the pillars of our health care system.

Please, stand with the Alliance for Retired Americans and The Nation in calling on Congress to reject cuts that shift costs onto the backs of seniors and disabled workers, and instead look for ways to strengthen and preserve Medicare for current and future generations.

Let’s re-commit ourselves to preserving and expanding Medicare AND Medicaid!

Thanks
