Progressive Retirees Plan More Actions
Several Texas Alliance for Retired Americans leaders were able to speak to the Labor Retirees caucus at the Texas Democratic Convention in Dallas June 27. Over fifty people attended, including many of our activists, even though we did not organize or pay for the event nor invite any speakers. By now, most Texans recognize the Alliance as the best way to organize and fight for the right to retire in America. At the meeting, our activists promoted petitions, delegations to political leaders, prayer vigils, street actions, news conferences, and every possible way to make sure seniors aren’t ignored any longer. We particularly asked people to show up to protest the American Legislative Exchange Council (ALEC) at their convention at the Anatole Hotel in Dallas on July 30-August 1.
Judy Bryant reminds us that the national executive director of the Alliance for Retired Americans is coming to help protest ALEC:
“Our Dallas TARA Chapter Meeting is this Wednesday, July 2 from 12:30-2 pm. Please join us for a program on Common Sense Economics-Why our current economic situation is by design and what you can do about it. We will have final details about the Don’t Mess With Texas, ALEC Rally on July 30. Our ARA Executive Director Rich Fiesta will join us at this rally!
