Statewide Retiree Conference January 24

The Texas Alliance for Retired Americans hosts a statewide retiree conference in the Tannehill Room of the Downtown Sheraton Hotel in Austin at 4 PM on Friday, January 24. We’ll have a chance to review 2013 and plan out our advocacy work for 2014. One of the main areas for us is to get our seniors to vote by mail and thus increase our voting power. We’ll be talking about overcoming Texas’ awful voter suppression effort, saving retiree benefits and pushing for improvements in Social Security, Medicare, and Medicaid.

It’s noteworthy that TARA participated in no less than 67 activities in 2013. That’s way more than 1 a week! Few progressive organizations can make a similar claim. But activism is what Texas retirees need, and it’s our middle name!

Senator Sanders Asks Us to a Teleconference

Senator Bernie Sanders notes that America’s seniors successfully avoided major cuts in Social Security, Medicare and Medicaid during the January budget fight. But we want a lot more. We want IMPROVEMENTS in those programs. Sanders asks us to RSVP, then they will call us at the time of the conference Monday, 7 PM. He writes:
